29th Bury St Edmunds Chess Congress

This year's Congress was again held at the 'apex' venue, as last year. The 'apex' is in the centre of the new 'arc' shopping development in the heart of the town, which has been built on the site of the former cattle market.

Last year we were honoured to welcome ECF President CJ de Mooi to the Congress.  This year we were delighted that ECF Chief Executive Andrew Farthing was present over both days and presented the prizes on Sunday afternoon.

On the day of the tournament, 151 people turned up to play.   Of these, 105 (70%) played last year.   Entrants included one GM, five IMs, twelve juniors and eight ladies.

*** You can now download press cuttings (pdf) from the East Anglian Daily Times and the Bury Free Press. (Opens in new window).
